The backlash later intensified this week after it was discovered that Nordstrom was promoting the piece for nearly $800, describing it as a “gorgeously crafted turban” that “is prepared to show heads while maintaining you in comfort in addition to trademark fashion.”

“This beyond worrying. Did someone at @Gucci even hassle to figure out what a dastaar (turban) manner to Sikhs? Did it pass your minds to keep in mind the records in the back of our identification? My human beings are discriminated against, even killed, for wearing a turban,” one consumer tweeted Tuesday.

“Dear @Gucci, the Sikh Turban isn’t always a warm new accent for white models but an article of religion for practicing Sikhs. Your fashions have used Turbans as ‘hats’ while practicing Sikhs tie them well fold-via-fold. Using faux Sikhs/Turbans is worse than promoting faux Gucci products,” some other person expressed.

Among the Sikhs, the data or turban is a piece of writing of faith that represents honor, self-recognize, courage, spirituality, and purity.\ Sikhism is a monotheistic faith (the notion of a single god) that originated in the Punjab place within the northern part of India.

“Wow. @Gucci and @Nordstrom are selling turbans as fashion objects. We’re attacked and killed for how we look, and now groups get to earnings of the identical appearance? Feels wrong to me,” another user wrote.

Gucci has now not but addressed the backlash and did now not straight away respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. The luxurious brand pulled the debatable “blackface” turtleneck jumpsuit in February and standard “complete duty.” The agency additionally announced plans to step up variety hiring as a part of a protracted-time period promise to sell recognition inside the logo.

“We are given full duty for this incident, which has exposed shortfalls in our ongoing strategic technique to embedding range and inclusion in each our agency and in our sports,” the declaration said, adding, “I am particularly grateful to Dapper Dan for the position he has performed in bringing community leaders together to provide us they suggest at the moment,” Gucci president and CEO Marco Bizzarri said in a declaration shared on social media.
